This mythical figure appears as the first in the line of kings, the father of kings, the model of the good king. But this same figure is commonly remembered as the central luminary of the sky, often a central sun, unmoving sun, or superior sun ruling before the present sun. And most curiously, with the rise of astronomy, this celestial "king" was identified as the planet Saturn. The celestial king who was associated with the planet Saturn was also known as the Egyptian Atum-Ra, the Sumerian An, the Hebrew and Canaanite El, the Norse Frodhi, the Greek Kronos and the Latin Saturn. Yet nothing in the appearance of the planet today will account for the extraordinary attributes of these gods. It appears on the surface that ancient peoples attributed great qualities of majesty and power to a tiny speck in the sky. It is no wonder that this puzzling phenomenon has been dismissed as an amusing artifact of the primitive mind. We believe that this puzzle holds a mystery whose solution will change forever our understanding of human history and the evolution of the solar system.
