In the distance I could see at least seventeen pyramids spread out before me in a panoramic picture; some of them standing solitary, while others were grouped in twos or even rows. There are pyramids as far as you can see! What went on in that bewitched region of central China? Which mysteries from a long distant past are waiting for satisfactory explanations? Only three or four miles from this 'pyramid city' I found one that was nearly shaped like the Teotihuacan Sun Pyramid that lies 40 kilometers northwest of Mexico City. Even the height (65 meters) is the same. But being longer at its base, the Chinese counterpart looks more stout. I could see a deep grove running down one side caused by thousands of years of erosion.
