It is the heighest pyramid ever built, belongs to the fourth daynasty and is dated c. 2606-2583 B.C. It was built of granite blocks and raised to a height of 146.5 m. (479 feet). The size of the project is gigantic. It used 2.6 million cu. m. (3.4 million cu. yards) of stone. Built in several stages, the funeral chamber was finally placed at the heart of the pyramid, reched by a great gallery.
