Depression is currently treated using a technique called transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), but this technique is FDA-regulated and the extreme levels of cranial stimulation produced have caused seizure in a small number of patients. The present invention overcomes this problem through the use of a different imaging sequence which products magnetic fields different from, and several orders of magnitude weaker than, those used in TMS. Potential Commercial Uses The method of the invention potentially provides a safer method of using magnetic fields to treat depression than currently-practiced methods. The method is also more convenient, in that it uses a conventional MRI scanner to generate the magnetic fields. These fields are more uniform, and substantially weaker, than the fields generated by conventional TMS treatments. Patent Status McLean Hospital is the owner of U.S. Patent Number 6,572,528. The application has not yet been foreign filed./ (USPTO #6,572,528 )/ Licenses Available McLean Hospital is offering a worldwide exclusive license to this technology.
